MENA-can is a women-led organisation born from lived experience in communities across the Middle East and North Africa affected by conflict, economic uncertainty and systemic exclusion.
While we recognise these challenges, we refuse to let them define our region or determine its future.
Instead, we see something greater: millions of talented young people, determined women and resourceful communities with an extraordinary capacity to innovate, adapt and create solutions—even in the most difficult circumstances.
Throughout our work, we have met courageous entrepreneurs responding to some of their communities’ most urgent challenges—from unequal access to essential services and employment to climate pressures and disrupted local economies.
These changemakers understand the challenges because they live them. Their solutions are rooted in local knowledge, experience and trust.
Yet the support available to them is often limited, short-term or disconnected from their day-to-day realities.
Supporting change already in motion
We began as a grassroots initiative supporting changemakers who were already creating local impact. We did not arrive with ready-made solutions or search for people to “empower.”
We began by recognising the power, knowledge and determination already present within communities—and asking what these changemakers needed to move forward.
What becomes possible
We have witnessed first-hand what becomes possible when an entrepreneur receives tailored support, practical knowledge, appropriate technology and trusted connections:
An idea can become a sustainable enterprise.
An enterprise can create dignified livelihoods and deliver essential services.
A single success story can inspire widespread community transformation.
These experiences have shown us that locally led entrepreneurship can do more than generate income. It can shift realities.
From surviving uncertainty to shaping the future
MENA-can was created to accompany changemakers on this journey—not just to help them survive uncertainty, but to enable them to grow and thrive through it.
A growing ecosystem for lasting change
What began as a commitment to individual leaders is growing into a movement: ideas turning into enterprises, enterprises strengthening communities, and fragmented initiatives evolving into connected ecosystems for lasting change.
Today, MENA-can trains, mentors and connects entrepreneurs, grassroots organisations and ecosystem builders across the region and beyond.
We work where entrepreneurial talent is needed most—and far too often supported least.
